Obverse description The obverse bears the four-character reign title legend 崇禎通寶 (Chongzhen Tongbao) cast in regular script (kaishu), disposed in the traditional cross-reading arrangement: the first character (崇) at the top, the second (禎) at the right, the third (通) at the left, and the fourth (寶) at the bottom, each flanking the central square perforation. The characters are boldly rendered in relief against a flat field, separated by the four quadrants defined by the square hole. The rim is raised and slightly irregular, consistent with sand-cast production, and the overall fabric shows characteristic Ming dynasty casting style.
