Beschrijving voorzijde Central field features the Shanku (sacred conch shell), a traditional emblem of the Kingdom of Travancore, rendered in stylized relief with decorative scrollwork and a crown-like finial at the apex. The conch is set within a raised circular border, the whole surrounded by a bold eight-pointed star whose alternating triangular points radiate to the coin's rim, filling the field with a striking geometric pattern. No legend or inscription appears on this face.

Aanvullende informatie

Travancore maintained its own coinage well into the twentieth century, one of the few Indian princely states with a continuous minting tradition stretching back centuries. The cash denominations were anchored to the old Travancore rasi system, entirely separate from the British Indian rupee structure, and the state resisted full monetary integration with British India longer than most. Chithira Thirunal Bala Rama Varma II, who acceded in 1931 under a regency, was the last ruling Maharaja — his reign ending not with abdication but with Travancore's controversial accession to the Indian Union in 1949.
