Cảnh Hưng was the reign title of Lê Hiển Tông, whose 47-year rule from 1740 to 1786 was the longest of any Lê emperor — yet he held almost no real power. The Trịnh lords in the north controlled the court entirely, and cash coin production during this period reflects that fragmented authority: multiple mints operated under different power centers, which accounts for the considerable variety in fabric and casting quality seen across Cảnh Hưng issues. Barker distinguishes several subtypes within this reign alone.
The Trung Bảo inscription places this among the standard circulation issues rather than the heavier Thông Bảo ceremonial types.
