Obverse description Cast copper cash coin bearing four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in the traditional cross-reading order around a central square hole. The characters read clockwise from top: 景 (Cảnh), 用 (Dụng), 興 (Hưng), 寶 (Bảo), forming the legend 景興用寶 (Cảnh Hưng Dụng Bảo), meaning 'Useful Currency of the Cảnh Hưng era.' The characters are boldly cast in relief within a plain inner rim and an outer raised rim, with the square hole at center. The field between the characters is flat and unadorned, consistent with standard Lê Dynasty cash coin production.
