Additional information

The Yan regime (燕) was one of several short-lived separatist states that exploited Tang dynastic collapse in the northeast. Its Kaiyuan Tongbao issues are distinguished from the vast Tang imperial output by a crescent or pellet mark, though the attribution to Yan specifically rests on regional find concentrations rather than any documentary mint record. Hartill 14.90 is among the more contested attributions in late Tang provincial coinage — handle the assignment with appropriate skepticism.
