| Descrizione del dritto | Four Chinese characters rendered in clerical script (lishu) are arranged radially around the central square perforation, read clockwise from top: 開 (Kai), 元 (Yuan), 寶 (Bao), 通 (Tong), forming the inscription 開元通寶 (Kaiyuan Tongbao). The characters are boldly cast in high relief against a flat field, with a raised inner rim encircling the square hole and a raised outer rim bordering the coin. The calligraphic style is attributed to the celebrated Tang calligrapher Ouyang Xun, displaying characteristic clerical script proportions with precise, angular strokes. |

One or more crescents (lunettes) appear at various positions in the field — above, below, or to the sides of the square hole — serving as mint or workshop marks. The field surrounding the perforation shows the characteristic smooth, unadorned surface typical of Tang dynasty cast cash coinage, with visible casting texture and patination consistent with bronze alloy. |
