Obverse description Central square perforation surrounded by a raised inner rim, with four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform order reading top, right, bottom, left in clerical script (lishu). The legend 開元通寶 (Kaiyuan Tongbao) is rendered in bold, well-defined strokes characteristic of Tang dynasty calligraphic tradition. The characters are evenly distributed in the four quadrants between the central hole and the raised outer rim. The flat field exhibits typical cast surface texture, and the coin is encircled by a plain, slightly raised border.
