| 表面の銘文 | 開元通寶 (Translation: Kai Yuan Tong Bao — Inaugural Currency) |
| 裏面の説明 | Plain flat field centred on a square perforation, with a raised inner rim and plain outer rim. A single Chinese character 洪 (Hong), rendered in regular script (kaishu), is positioned above the central square hole, serving as a mint mark identifying the Hongzhou mint (modern-day Nanchang, Jiangxi province). The character is cast in raised relief and is notably smaller than the obverse legends. The reverse surface shows heavy patination with blue-green corrosion deposits consistent with burial or prolonged circulation. |

The "Hong" crescent mark on late Tang Kaiyuan Tongbao coinage is attributed to kilns operating in Hongzhou — present-day Nanchang, Jiangxi — during the period when central Tang authority was rapidly fragmenting under pressure from the Huang Chao rebellion and competing regional warlords. Provincial minting during these decades was largely unsupervised, which accounts for the considerable variation in flan quality and alloy consistency seen across Hongzhou output.
