Additional information

Francesco Verniero served as Lieutenant of Cyprus under Venetian rule during the 1550s, a period when the island's small-denomination coinage was issued by appointed governors rather than directly by Venice itself. The carzia was the lowest copper-billon denomination in Cypriot circulation, and issues from individual lieutenant tenures are distinguished primarily by name and die rather than by any administrative reform — Verniero's brief tenure produces one of the shorter series in the sequence.
