| Obverse description | Central device features a crowned escutcheon bearing a double-headed eagle displayed, the arms of Grand Master Giovanni Paolo Lascaris Castellar, rendered in the hammered style typical of Hospitaller coinage of the mid-seventeenth century. The shield is surmounted by a crown with visible pearl ornamentation. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading the Grand Master's name and titles, interrupted by a cross pattée at the top. The fields are slightly uneven, consistent with hand-struck production. The overall composition is well-centered for a hammered issue of this period. |
