| Obverse description | Quartered shield of Bologna occupying the central field, displaying the cross of the Church alternating with the word LIBERTAS across the four quarters, rendered in bold relief characteristic of Renaissance hammered coinage. The shield is framed by a decorative border, with the circular legend running along the coin's periphery. Small pellets serve as legend stops throughout the inscription. The entire design reflects the civic heraldic tradition of the Papal States city of Bologna. |
