| 背面描述 | The eight-pointed cross of the Order of St. John, rendered as a cross pattée within a quadrilobe or quatrefoil frame, occupying the central field. The cross arms flare toward their ends and are separated by the lobed outline of the inner frame. A circular Latin devotional legend surrounds the central device, contained within beaded borders, invoking the intercession of Saint John the Baptist. |

Alof de Wignacourt served as Grand Master for over two decades, the longest reign of any Grand Master in the Order's Maltese period. His tenure coincided with sustained Ottoman pressure in the eastern Mediterranean and a significant expansion of Valletta's fortifications, funded in part through the Order's own coinage.
The carlino denomination traces to southern Italian monetary convention, inherited from the Order's long engagement with Neapolitan fiscal systems before its 1530 establishment on Malta under Charles V.
