Beschrijving voorzijde	The obverse features the coat of arms of the Republic of The Gambia prominently centered in the field, depicting a quartered shield supported by two lions rampant, surmounted by a helmet and crest with a battle axe and hoe crossed above. A decorative wreath forms the base of the supporters. The legend REPUBLIC OF THE GAMBIA arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin characters, while the date 1998 appears in the lower field beneath the arms.

Beschrijving keerzijde	The reverse displays a naturalistic depiction of a groundnut (peanut) plant branch bearing three pods, rendered in fine detail to emphasize the textured surface of the shells, occupying the central and left portions of the field. To the right, the numeral 1 and the inscription BUTUT are arranged vertically in the field. Arabic script reading بُتُوتْ appears in the lower left field, referencing the denomination in the country's widely spoken language.
