| Reverse description | The quartered Royal Stuart arms displayed on a shield, surmounted by an imperial crown with elaborate mantling. The four quarters bear respectively the three lions passant guardant of England, the fleurs-de-lis of France, the lion rampant of Scotland, and the harp of Ireland. The royal cypher C R (Carolus Rex) flanks the shield to left and right within the beaded inner circle. The circumferential legend · VNITA · TVEMVR · (These united we guard) surrounds the design, separated by pellet stops, consistent with the milled coinage produced under Briot at the Edinburgh Mint during the 3rd Coinage. |
