El Banco de Bolivia y Londres was a joint Anglo-Bolivian commercial bank established in the late nineteenth century, part of a wave of foreign-backed institutions that flooded South America during the export boom years. Waterlow & Sons handled the printing, as they did for a considerable share of Latin American private bank issues of the period — their London workshop was essentially the default choice for any issuer wanting engraved work of reliable quality on short timelines.
Bolivia's private banking era ended abruptly with the 1890s monetary reforms that pushed toward a centralized system, making the operational window for notes like this a narrow one.
