| Descrizione del dritto | The Bolivian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting an oval shield charged with a landscape scene including Cerro Potosí, a llama, a breadfruit tree, and a sheaf of wheat, surmounted by a condor with outstretched wings and flanked by furled national flags and fasces with battle axes. The circumferential legend REPUBLICA DE BOLIVIA arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin characters. The date 1998 appears in the lower central field, flanked on either side by two curved rows of ten six-pointed stars arranged in an arc along the lower rim. |

Bolivia's 1998 silver Boliviano was issued by the Banco Central as part of a broader commemorative program during a period when the country had only recently stabilized its currency after the catastrophic hyperinflation of 1984–1985, when monthly inflation peaked above 20,000 percent and the original peso boliviano was rendered worthless. The boliviano itself — reintroduced in 1987 at a rate of one million old pesos — was still a relatively young unit of account when this piece was struck.
