Banco del Comercio was one of several Bolivian private banks authorized to issue notes under the 1890 banking law, which opened the door to a cluttered plurality of competing provincial and commercial issuers — each producing their own paper at face value parity with the boliviano. Bradbury Wilkinson handled a significant share of this business, supplying engraved notes to multiple Bolivian institutions simultaneously.

The private bank era in Bolivia collapsed within a decade. The 1906 Ley de Bancos forced consolidation, and most commercial bank issues were retired and destroyed, which is why low-denomination survivors from this period are genuinely uncommon relative to their original print runs.
