Obverse description Central field displays the quartered civic arms of Ulm within a shaped shield, surmounted by a displayed imperial eagle with spread wings occupying the upper portion of the design. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle, around which runs the circular legend in uncial Gothic lettering. The overall composition is characteristic of late medieval South German municipal coinage, executed in the hammered technique with bold relief.
