Reverse description The reverse displays the crowned quartered coat of arms of the Spanish monarchy, featuring castles and lions in the quarters, with a partial circular legend in Latin. A large heart-shaped perforation dominates the central field, the result of the 1764 Martinique countermarking operation that created the 'Bit' denomination from cut Spanish colonial silver reales. The legend PHILIPPUS D G (Philip, by the grace of God) is partially legible around the periphery, along with the mint mark S (Seville) and assayer initial visible in the lower field.
