| Obverse description | Intaglio-printed note in green on multicolour guilloche underprint; a vignette of coffee trees occupies the left centre, while an intaglio portrait of Emperor Haile Selassie I in military dress uniform is positioned at right. Ge'ez script legends appear at top centre and along the lower margin, with the English denomination 'ONE ETHIOPIAN DOLLAR' printed centrally above the bearer clause 'PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND'.
