Obverse description Five fleurs-de-lis arranged across the field, three visible in the upper register and two partially cut by the irregular flan at lower left and lower right. The fleurs-de-lis, the heraldic emblem of the French crown, are rendered in bold relief against a plain bronze field. The design is unbordered, consistent with the crudely struck hammered coinage of the French Indian settlement at Mahé. No legend or inscription is present.

Reverse description The mint year rendered in large, boldly incused Arabic numerals occupying the central field, with no surrounding legend or border. The numerals are deeply and somewhat crudely struck, characteristic of the hammered coinage produced at Mahé for local circulation. The plain, unadorned field surrounding the date reflects the utilitarian nature of this small fractional denomination.
