The Army Canteens Service operated across Australian state-based military detachments to supply troops with provisions, including controlled alcohol rations. Beer vouchers of this type functioned as internal scrip — redeemable only within canteen facilities and carrying no value outside the military supply chain. They were never intended to circulate and were typically destroyed after redemption, which accounts for their scarcity.
Victorian Detachment issues are among the harder Australian military canteen pieces to attribute precisely, as record-keeping varied between state commands.
