| Reverse description | The reverse displays a bold cross pattée of the Military Order of Christ, its arms expanding toward the coin's periphery and deeply recessed between the limbs. A single six-pointed star or mullet is placed in each of the four quadrants formed by the arms of the cross, filling the field symmetrically. The overall design is stark and unlettered, with no surrounding legend, and is executed in the coarse cast technique characteristic of Portuguese Indian bazaruco coinage of the reign of José I. |
