Obverse description Central field bearing the crowned royal arms of Portugal, comprising a quartered shield with castles and escutcheons, enclosed within a circular inner border. The mint master's initials G-A appear flanking the shield in the field. A partial Latin legend runs along the upper periphery, though due to the crude cast technique the inscription is largely illegible on most specimens. The overall design is characteristic of the low-denomination bazaruco coinage struck in calain (tin-lead alloy) at the Goa mint under Philip II of Portugal (Philip III of Spain).
