Obverse description Central field dominated by a large, boldly struck capital letter 'F' (for Filipe/Felipe I), rendered in a plain serif style characteristic of hammered Portuguese colonial coinage. The letter occupies the majority of the flan, with no surrounding legend. The coin surface is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hammered production at the Goa mint. The flan edges are uneven, reflecting the hand-cut planchet preparation typical of 16th-century Indian colonial issues.
