Obverse description Central shield bearing the Portuguese royal coat of arms, rendered in low relief typical of cast tin coinage. The shield displays the characteristic Portuguese quinas (five escutcheons) arranged in a cross pattern within a plain border. The design is contained within a roughly circular flan with no surrounding legend.

Reverse description A gridiron, the attribute of Saint Lawrence, depicted centrally in the field as a symbol of the patron saint. The gridiron is surrounded by a circular legend reading S: LOVRENCO, referencing Saint Lawrence, rendered in Latin characters. The inscription and device are characteristic of Portuguese colonial coinage struck for Ceylon during the early seventeenth century.
