Nidwalden's 1811 Batzen belongs to a transitional moment in Swiss monetary history — the canton had only recently regained its autonomy following the collapse of the Helvetic Republic in 1803, and local coinage resumed as cantons reasserted independent issuing authority under the Mediation Act. Nidwalden's issues from this period are among the smallest cantonal series by volume, reflecting both the canton's modest size and the limited window before Swiss federal monetary consolidation rendered them obsolete.
