| Obverse description | Central field displays the pointed shield of Basel bearing the canonical crozier symbol, rendered in low relief within a classically styled cartouche. The shield is flanked on either side by symmetrical olive or laurel branches, their stems crossing at the base to form a decorative wreath arrangement. The legend CANTON BASEL arcs along the upper periphery in incuse Latin lettering. A fine beaded border frames the entire design, consistent with the milled coinage style of the early Swiss cantonal period. |

| Reverse description | The denomination and date are displayed in three lines at the centre of the field, reading 1 / BATZEN / and the year of issue, enclosed within a bold wreath of oak leaves tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The oak wreath is rendered in high relief with finely detailed lobed foliage and acorns. A continuous beaded border surrounds the entire design, echoing the treatment of the obverse. The reverse is unlettered save for the numeral and denomination, presenting a clean and legible layout characteristic of Swiss cantonal billon coinage of the Napoleonic era. |
