The cantons regained their individual minting rights that year, and Lucerne moved quickly. The dual denomination — Batzen and Rappen simultaneously — reflects the transitional monetary arithmetic of the period, bridging the old cantonal Batzen system with the decimal Rappen introduced under French influence.
