| Obverse description | Central field bears the crowned Portuguese royal shield of arms, comprising the characteristic quinas (five escutcheons arranged in cross) within a raised border. The shield is surmounted by a crown and enclosed within a beaded or rope inner circle. A partial Latin legend surrounds the design in the outer field, reading the royal titulature of Manuel I. The strike is characteristically irregular, as typical of hammered tin-lead coinage produced at the Malacca Mint, with flat and uneven areas evident across the flan. |
