| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King Carol I facing left, rendered in fine relief with naturalistic detail to the hair and beard. The truncation is unadorned, and the engraver's signature KULLRICH appears incuse along the lower rim below the portrait. The circular legend reads CAROL I REGE AL ROMANIEI, arranged around the periphery of the field. The overall design is classical in treatment, consistent with the late 19th-century medallic style employed at the Bucharest Mint. |

The legend ROMANIA arcs across the upper field, the date 1900 is divided across the mid-field to either side of the arms, the mint mark B appears at lower left, and the denomination 1 BAN is inscribed along the lower periphery. |
