Obverse description Central field displays the Panamanian Coat of Arms, comprising a quartered shield with a cornucopia, winged wheel, crossed sword and rifle, and other national symbols, flanked by nine five-pointed stars above arranged in a horizontal row. The outer legend reads REPUBLICA DE PANAMA along the upper periphery and PRO MUNDI BENEFICIO along the lower, with an erroneous silver fineness inscription LEY 0.925 and the denomination 1 BALBOA appearing below the shield — a mule characteristic, as this copper-nickel clad coin incorrectly bears the legend of the earlier sterling silver series.
