Reverse description A right-facing armored bust of Vasco Núñez de Balboa, the Spanish conquistador and first European to sight the Pacific Ocean from the Americas, fills the central field. He is depicted wearing an ornately engraved conquistador helmet adorned with intricate scrollwork and a fleur-de-lis motif at center, along with a chainmail gorget and articulated pauldrons rendered in fine detail. Small flowering branches flank the bust in the lower field on each side. The legend VN BALBOA curves along the upper periphery, with dot separators, identifying the denomination.
