Obverse description The Panamanian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield surmounted by a displayed eagle with wings spread, a scroll in its beak bearing the national motto PRO MUNDI BENEFICIO. The shield quarters display crossed swords and rifle, the Isthmus of Panama with ships on both flanks, a cornucopia, and a winged wheel, all supported by radiating rays at the base. Nine stars arc above the eagle, flanking branches of flowering plants adorn the lower field on either side, and the fineness notation LEY 0.500 appears to the left. The legend REPUBLICA DE PANAMA curves along the upper periphery in bold relief, with the date below the shield at the bottom of the coin.
