The national coat of arms of Panama is prominently displayed at center, featuring a quartered shield with symbols representing the country's history and geography: crossed sword and rifle in the first quarter, a spade and pickaxe in the second, a cornucopia in the third, and a winged wheel in the fourth, with a landscape depicting the Isthmus in the lower half. A harpy eagle with wings displayed surmounts the shield, and national flags flank the escutcheon on either side. A wreath of laurel and palm frames the lower portion of the design. The legend REPVBLICA DE PANAMA arcs along the upper periphery, accompanied by a row of stars below it. The fineness LEY 0.900 appears to the left field, the weight GR. 26.73 to the right field, and the date 1974 is inscribed in the exergue. |
