| Obverse description | Central device features the papal coat of arms of Pope Pius VI, consisting of a quartered shield displaying the Braschi family arms — a diagonal band with three stars above a wind-blown lily — surmounted by the papal tiara and flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter. The shield is set within an elaborate baroque cartouche adorned with foliate scrollwork. The circular legend reads PIVS·SEXTVS PON·M·A·XX·, denoting Pius VI as Pontifex Maximus in his regnal year, running along the inner border of the milled coin edge. |
