| 表面の説明 | The reverse die serves as the obverse for this type, depicting a seated allegorical female figure, likely Faith or the Church, shown in three-quarter view resting upon clouds in the right field. She is draped in classical robes and gestures toward a domed ecclesiastical building or lantern tower at center-left, rendered in detailed relief. A radiant sunburst emanates from the upper field, with a dove descending in glory amid the rays. The keys of Saint Peter hang prominently at lower left, symbolizing papal authority. The entire design is enclosed within a toothed border. |

Clement XIII spent much of his pontificate in a losing battle against the suppression of the Jesuits — by 1759 Portugal had expelled the order, France followed in 1764, and Spain in 1767. He died in 1769, some said from the strain of it, just weeks before a conclave he had dreaded would formally dissolve the Society of Jesus. The baiocco was the workhorse denomination of papal copper circulation, and issues from his reign were produced continuously across those turbulent years at the Rome mint.
