Obverse description Central field dominated by the papal coat of arms of Benedict XIV, depicting a straight-sided heraldic shield with vertical striping, flanked by elaborate scrollwork and surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter. The legend BENED·XIV PON·M·A·XII encircles the design, denoting Benedict XIV, Pontifex Maximus, in his twelfth regnal year. The shield is set within an ornate baroque cartouche with foliate decoration to either side. The coin exhibits a milled border of fine denticles framing the entire composition. The design is rendered in the bold, decorative style characteristic of mid-eighteenth-century papal coinage.
