This issue coincided with the Japanese occupation period, during which Thailand's financial system operated under severe external pressure. The government continued issuing notes under its own authority throughout the war years, but paper and printing quality deteriorated noticeably across the series — P#58 being among the issues most affected by wartime material shortages.
Rama VIII, for whom this series is named, was only a teenager living in Switzerland when these notes circulated. He would not return to Thailand until 1945, the final year of the issue range.
