This 1869 piece is a pattern struck during Chulalongkorn's early reign, before he had consolidated the administrative reforms that would eventually modernize Siamese coinage. Thailand's first Western-style milled coinage had only been introduced under Rama IV in the 1860s, and the Royal Mint in Bangkok was still experimenting with specifications, alignment, and edge treatments — which explains why multiple pattern variants from this period exist with differing alignments and edge types. Medal alignment on a Siamese coin of this date is notable; the production series ultimately adopted coin alignment.
