Issued to mark the 6th Asian Games, held in Bangkok in December 1970 — the second time Thailand had hosted the event and a considerable point of national prestige for the Thanom Kittikachorn government. Thailand had first hosted in 1966, making it the only country to hold back-to-back Games in the early history of the competition. Circulation strikes of commemorative one-baht pieces from this period were produced in large numbers and saw genuine use, leaving most surviving examples in well-worn condition.
