| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bust of Saint Simeon the Righteous and Prophet shown in three-quarter facing left, holding the Christ Child before him, rendered in a stylized medieval manner characteristic of Dalmatian civic coinage. The central figure is enclosed by a circular legend in Latin. The relief is low and the strike irregular, consistent with hammered coinage of the Venetian-administered Dalmatian communes. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Zara's bagattino belongs to a civic coinage tradition that persisted through nearly four centuries of Venetian administration — the city formally submitted to Venice in 1409 following a period of Hungarian rule, and the Republic permitted it to maintain a local copper currency as a matter of practical commerce rather than political generosity. These small-denomination pieces circulated alongside Venetian issues in the markets and harbors of Dalmatia, filling the gap that larger silver never adequately covered at the retail level.
The type's longevity across 388 years means attributing any single example to a specific period within that span is rarely possible without die study.
