Obverse description Central device consisting of a shield bearing the Teutonic cross — a plain cross with a small hollow or voided cross at its centre — enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The shield is rendered in a flat, heraldic style characteristic of late 14th-century Baltic coinage. A circular Gothic legend surrounds the beaded border, reading MAGISTRI · LIVONIE ·, denoting the Master of Livonia. The field between the shield and the inner beaded circle is plain. Punctuation marks separating legend words serve also as mint-variety indicators on certain die variants.
