Obverse description Left-facing profile effigy of Queen Nefertiti of ancient Egypt, rendered in high relief after the celebrated bust discovered at Amarna, wearing her distinctive flat-topped double-plumed crown with horizontal banding. The engraver's monogram appears in the upper left field. The date 1961 is placed in two lines to the right of the portrait. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire design within a raised rim.

Reverse description Central design features a six-pointed Gothic cross with elaborately stylized, flared arms terminating in decorative crescent-shaped finials. The Roman numeral I denoting the denomination occupies the central roundel of the cross, while flowering lily blossoms fill each of the six angles between the arms. The numeral 1000 appears at the base of the cross above the lower legend. A circular Latin inscription surrounds the entire composition within a raised rim.
