| 正面描述 | Finely engraved bust of Albrecht Dürer facing right, depicted with long curling hair and a beard, wearing a soft beret-style cap with a tassel, rendered in a style closely inspired by Dürer's own self-portrait imagery. The effigy occupies the majority of the field with strong relief and detailed chasing. The surrounding legend reads ALBRECHT DÜRER ★ 1471 zu NÜRNBERG · 1971, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the artist's birth, arranged along the upper and lower periphery in bold incuse lettering. |

| 背面描述 | A panoramic view of the Nuremberg cityscape dominates the field, featuring the prominent towers and structures of Nuremberg Castle (Kaiserburg) along with Gothic church spires and medieval rooftops rendered in bold relief. At the center foreground, the Nuremberg civic arms — a crowned eagle on a shield — is displayed prominently. Above the cityscape, a six-armed cross (the Nuremberg heraldic cross) appears at the top of the field, flanked by the denomination I ARG inscribed beneath it. The legend NÜRNBERG arcs along the lower periphery, with the fineness indicator 1000 below. |

Issued to mark the 500th anniversary of Dürer's birth, this was among the earliest West German commemorative silver pieces struck to a .999 fineness — a deliberate departure from the .625 standard used for circulating commemoratives of the period. The Nuremberg city council had originally buried Dürer's reputation during his lifetime by paying him a modest municipal pension largely to keep him from leaving for a more prestigious court.
