Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a large crowned imperial eagle displayed to the left with wings fully outstretched, rendered in bold relief in the medieval hammered style. The eagle's crown and spread wings are clearly delineated despite the irregular flan. A circular Latin legend surrounds the beaded border, reading OTTO REX, referring to Otto IV, Holy Roman Emperor, in whose name the coinage of Lucca was struck.
