Japanese POW camps in the Indian subcontinent issued scrip to control internal camp economies — keeping currency separate from the occupied civilian money supply and preventing prisoners from accumulating funds usable outside the wire. The Delhi camp issues are among the rarer of the Indian series; documentation on exact issue dates and authorized quantities is fragmentary at best, and most examples were surrendered, destroyed, or discarded at liberation in 1945.
Campbell 5228 is one of the lesser-documented camp scrip entries for the region, and surviving specimens are infrequently offered.
