Ravensburg in the 1420s was among the most commercially active cities in the Upper Swabian region, its merchant class organized through the powerful Große Ravensburger Handelsgesellschaft — a trading company that at its peak operated across much of Europe from Catalonia to Poland. The angster was the workhorse denomination of small daily exchange, and municipal issues like this one circulated alongside a chaotic mix of regional billon and silver fractions that made standardization effectively impossible.
At 0.38 g, attrition through handling was rapid. Survivors in collectible condition are scarce precisely because the coin was never meant to last.
