The Angolar was Angola's currency unit from 1928 until decimalization in 1958, replacing the colonial escudo in an attempt to give the territory a distinct monetary identity — though it was always pegged to the Portuguese escudo at parity. Thomas De La Rue's involvement was typical of British firms printing for Portuguese colonial territories during this period, a curious outsourcing arrangement given Portugal's own capable printing infrastructure at the Casa da Moeda in Lisbon.
P#70 is among the more routinely encountered notes from this series. No notable printing variants or major errors have been documented for this denomination and date.
