Reverse description A medieval sailing ship viewed from the side, depicted with sweeping hull lines and stylised waves below, bearing amidships a large quartered royal shield of the arms of England and France ancient, suspended from the mast. A large cross rises above the shield to the top of the coin, dividing the upper field. The surrounding legend, separated from the inner device by a beaded circle, runs continuously around the coin in uncial Latin characters. The composition exemplifies the standard Angel reverse design employed throughout the late Yorkist and early Tudor periods.
